China economy: staring down the bottomless pit

by Zarathustra, Also Sprach Analyst:

All major macro data from China over the last 2 days have been disappointing.

The third quarter started on a surprisingly weak note for China despite all the talks (and hope) on stimulus and monetary policy easing.

The macro data pretty much confirm our view that economic growth did not reach a bottom in the second quarter as the consensus used to believe.

If anything, the economy seems to be worsening somewhat again.

After these weak numbers pointing to hardly any recovery, we believe that the market will step up their talks on further and more aggressive stimulus both on fiscal and monetary sides, and we suspect that the consensus will be shifting from believing in a Q2 bottom to a Q3 bottom (which has been happening for a few quarters now: the economy will recover next quarter, said everyone in every quarter).

There is very little doubt, to our mind, that this series of weak numbers will put more pressure on the government to ease policy further. However, let us review a few facts: the People’s Bank of China has already cut interest rates twice and RRR has been reduced three times since late last year. The government has expressed their intention to bring future investment projects forward, and now that growth is their top priority.

Is Gold Hinting At Imminent Coordinated Global Intervention?

from Zero Hedge:

While it is still early in the overnight session, initial indications are for a full spectrum Risk Off market. In fact, S&P 500 futures (ES) have not fallen this fast over a two- or three-day period since the third week of November last year. As many may remember – a few days of drops like this took ES from 1260 to 1136 in a week but more importantly was followed very quickly by a massive and coordinated Central Bank intervention that ripped ES over 6% higher in an overnight session – sparking the entire rally of the last six months as it appeared the central bank put strike had been dragged higher. Admittedly the two-day fall so far (while the largest in almost six months) is still small in context, it would appear the world is waking up to the true event risks of a debt-saturated fiat system going through its death throes. Back of the envelope would suggest we need to drop to 1285 or so on the S&P before the same kind of hit-the-big-red-central-bank-panic-button kind of move comes into play. Sure enough, Gold is only very modestly lower (-$3 at $1640) so far in the face of a rip higher in USD and broad liquidation everywhere else – perhaps the patience of sound money will be paid off once again.

Aussies asked to take in asylum seekers, and be paid for it

[ED NOTE: Australian Government to use Australian Tax Dollars to fund the asylum seekers in Aussie homes. Seems like a good way to make an easy $300.00 but nothing comes for free. Thank you Aussie Gov for creating such a great scheme to use my tax dollars for nothing useful again]

THE Federal Government will pay families up to $300 a week to temporarily house asylum seekers in their homes to help deal with the increasing numbers of arrivals.

With the Immigration Department now facing a potential shortage of community housing to accommodate detainees being released into the community, the Government has turned to householders for help, the Daily Telegraph has reported.

Under a plan slated to start next month, the Government will seek to access the 5000 homes registered under the privately run Australian Homestay Network to host asylum seekers released from detention on bridging visas.

AHN was originally established to provide short-term private-home accommodation and board for international students.

Government to roll out same snooping tactics as ‘China and Iran’ by getting access to everybody’s emails, texts, and internet browsing

UK Daily Mail
April 1, 2012

Major changes to surveillance laws are to give the Government the power to monitor email exchanges and website visits of every person in the UK.

The new legislation is expected to be announced in the Queen’s Speech next month, despite similar ‘Big Brother’-style laws being rejected six years ago.

Internet companies will be instructed to install hardware enabling GCHQ – the Government’s electronic ‘listening’ agency – to examine ‘on demand’ any phone call made, text message and email sent, and website accessed in ‘real time’.

Civil liberties campaigners expressed fears that this ‘unprecedented’ move will intrude on the lives of British citizens, with the measures being compared to strict controls currently exercised in China and Iran.

In 2006, Labour was forced to abandon similar plans in the face of fierce opposition from Conservatives, Liberal Democrats and privacy groups.

But now, the Sunday Times reports, the Home Office has confirmed coalition ministers intend to revive the move towards greater surveillance ‘as soon as parliamentary time allows’.

Broken Promises: Pensions All Over America Are Being Savagely Cut Or Are Vanishing Completely

from The Economic Collapse Blog:

How would you feel if you worked for a state or local government for 20 or 30 years only to have your pension slashed dramatically or taken away entirely? Well, this exact scenario is playing out from coast to coast and in the years ahead millions of elderly Americans are going to be affected by broken promises and vanishing pensions. In the old days, things were much different. You would get hired by a big company or a government institution and you knew that the retirement benefits that they were promising you would be there when you retired in a few decades. Unfortunately, we have now arrived at a time when government institutions and big companies have promised far more than they are able to deliver, and “pension reform” has become one of the hot button issues all over the nation. Many Americans that have been basing their financial futures on their pensions are waking up one day and finding that their pensions are either gone or have been cut back dramatically. According to Northwestern University Professor John Rauh, the latest estimate of the total amount of unfunded pension and healthcare obligations for state and local governments across the United States is 4.4 trillion dollars. America is continually becoming a poorer nation and all of that money is simply not going to magically materialize somehow. So where is that 4.4 trillion dollars going to come from? Well, either pension benefits are going to have to be cut a lot more all over America or taxes will need to be raised dramatically. Either way, we are all going to feel the pain of these broken promises.

Australian children to be sterilized without parental consent under new eugenics law

(NaturalNews) If you have ever seen the famous 1975 movie One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest, you likely recall several disturbing scenes in which mental health patients are given frontal-lobe lobotomies, or the iconic scene where actor Jack Nicholson’s character undergoes electroconvulsive therapy (ECT). Today, these horrific forms of so-called mental health treatment are considered to be cruel relics of the past, but a new bill in Australia proposes that young children be given these treatments without parental consent, and even be permitted to undergo sterilization procedures without parental consent.

The Government of Western Australia’s Mental Health Commission (WAMHC) has basically conjured up a proposal for new mental health legislation that bypasses parental involvement in the mental health treatment process, and instead tasks children under age 18, and of any age, with making the decision about whether or not to be sterilized, or whether or not to have their brain tissue destroyed with psychosurgery procedures. If a “mental health professional” can convince children that they need such treatments for their own good, in other words, than Australia’s youngest members of society will be open game for the eugenicist agenda.

It almost sounds like the plot of a sick movie, but it is all true and fully documented right in the WAMHC Mental Health Bill 2011, which you can access here: http://www.mentalhealth.wa.gov.au

Eugenicists want to sterilize Australian children without ever telling the kids’ parents

In the twisted minds of those who have seized positions of power all over the world, separating children from their parents and performing medical experiments on them in secret is a fully acceptable form of “medicine.” And this form of child abuse is exactly what WAMHC has proposed in its new mental health bill.

Pages 135 and 136 of the bill (pages 157 and 158 of the PDF) cover the issue of sterilization, explaining that if a psychiatrist decides that a child under 18 years of age “has sufficient maturity,” he or she will be able to consent to sterilization without parental consent. It also goes on to say that parents will never be notified that the sterilization procedure occurred, as only the “Chief Psychiatrist” will be privy to this information.

It sounds an awful lot like the euthanasia programs that emerged in Germany during the 1930s, when Nazis began secretly sterilizing individuals with physical or mental disabilities as part of “Operation T4″ (http://fcit.usf.edu/holocaust/people/victims.htm). This eugenics program was later intensified, of course, when German physicians at Nazi death camps routinely sterilized men, women, and children, and later killed them, as part of the Nazi regime’s utterly revolting ethnic cleansing experiments (http://www.jewishvirtuallibrary.org/jsource/Holocaust/aumed.html).

Medical ‘authorities’ want to arbitrarily commit children to mental institutions, indefinitely restrain them, and force them to undergo brain-damaging procedures

All of this gets worse, however, with other language scattered throughout the bill that would allow psychiatrists to involuntarily and indefinitely detain children who are “suspected” of having a mental illness. And during their detainment, such children can be forced to comply with drug, restraint, and seclusion protocols, as well as be forced to undergo permanently-damaging procedures like psychosurgery or ECT.

Worse, those who would be permitted to detain these children in the first place, deemed as “authorized mental health practitioners,” are so loosely defined that virtually anyone could be authorized by the Chief Psychiatrist to abduct supposedly “mentally ill” children and commit them to mental institutions against their will and their parents’ will.

Mental Health Commission is only accepting comments on the bill until March 9, 2012

The language in Australia’s Mental Health Bill 2011 truly is horrifying, but not necessarily surprising. Similar efforts to undermine parental authority are taking place both in the U.S. and around the world.

California Gov. Jerry Brown, for instance, recently signed into law Senate Assembly Bill 499, which allows for children as young as age 12 to be vaccinated with the human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine Gardasil, Hepatitis B, and various other sexually-transmitted disease (STD) vaccines without parental consent (http://www.naturalnews.com/033848_Merck_legislators.html).

But our friends “down under” need your help today in spreading the word about this deadly legislation, and sending comments of opposition to Australia’s Mental Health Commission as soon as possible.

You can send your comments by email to:
contactus@mentalhealth.wa.gov.au

You can send your comments by “snail” mail to:
GPO Box X2299
Perth Business Centre, W.A. 6847
Australia

If you live in Australia, you can also contact the Mental Health Minister, the Health Minister, and your local Member of Parliament by visiting:
http://www.parliament.wa.gov.au/parliament/memblist.nsf/WAllMembers

The deadline to submit a comment is March 9, so be sure to submit your comment before then. And remember, health freedom issues, whether domestic or abroad, eventually affect all of us if left unchecked. This is why it is important to combat tyranny and injustice anywhere and everywhere it may be found.

Obama Uses Staged Cyber Attack To Sell Draconian Cybersecurity Bill

Wants federal control over companies’ cyber security systems

Steve Watson
Prisonplanet.com
March 8, 2012

The Obama administration conducted a mock cyber attack on New York City yesterday in an effort to gain support in the Senate for a cybersecurity bill that internet providers argue will prevent them from making real security improvements.

“Senators from both parties gathered behind closed doors in the U.S. Capitol yesterday for the classified briefing attended by Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano, FBI Director Robert Mueller and other administration officials.” reports Bloomberg.

White House spokesperson Caitlin Hayden said that the staged attack was “intended to provide all senators with an appreciation for new legislative authorities that would help the U.S. government prevent and more quickly respond to cyber attacks,”.

Hayden added that the Senate will receive a classified briefing on the “hypothetical cyber attack against United States critical infrastructure networks.”

The networks attacked during the mock event reportedly included U.S. banks, power grids and telecommunications systems.

Also reportedly present at the demonstration, were Gen. Keith Alexander, director of the Defense Department’s Cyber Command; Ashton Carter, deputy secretary of Defense; Gen. Martin Dempsey, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff; James Cole, deputy attorney general; Stephanie O’Sullivan, principal deputy director of national intelligence; Howard Schmidt, cybersecurity coordinator at the White House; Cam Kerry, general counsel of the Commerce Department; Thomas D’Agostino, under secretary for nuclear security and administrator, National Nuclear Security Administration; and Chris Painter, coordinator of cyber issues at the State Department.

Republican Senator Susan Collins, co-sponsor of the cybersecurity bill said that the demonstration was “very compelling,” adding that “It illustrated the problem and why legislation is desperately needed,”.

The other sponsors of the bill, which is supported by Obama, are Sens. Joseph Lieberman (I-Conn.), Jay Rockefeller (D-W.Va.) and Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.)

Critics contend that the bill contains several provisions that represent a sweeping power grab on behalf of the federal government.

A measure recently added to the bill by Collins and Lieberman, and supported by Obama, would empower the Department of Homeland Security to conduct “risk assessments” of private companies in sectors deemed critical to U.S. national and economic security, forcing them to comply with expensive mandates to secure their systems.

ISPs AT&T and Comcast have denounced the provision, declaring that federal oversight will stifle innovation.

“Such requirements could have an unintended stifling effect on making real cybersecurity improvements,” Edward Amoroso, chief security officer for Dallas-based AT&T, said in testimony at the hearing. “Cyber adversaries are dynamic and increasingly sophisticated, and do not operate under a laboriously defined set of rules or processes.”

The ISP’s are backing a competing GOP bill, co-sponsored by John McCain, that promotes incentives for operators to share threat information with one another and with federal agencies, rather than regulatory mandates.

The companies say that the competing bill would help them “avoid new regulations while promoting information-sharing through incentives such as protection from lawsuits.”

As we have previously reported, the Cybersecurity Act originally legislated for an Internet ‘kill switch’ that would allow the President to shut down parts of the Internet in an emergency.

While the provision was dropped after being much publicized, the White House still claims that it already retains such powers under the law that created the Federal Communications Commission in 1934. This law states that if a “state of public peril or disaster or other national emergency” exists, the president may “authorize the use or control of any…station or device.”

Doug Casey on Cashless Societies

from CaseyResearch.com:

(Interviewed by Louis James, Editor, International Speculator)

L: Doug, we’ve had a lot of questions from readers about the apparent push governments are making to go to paperless currency – all electronic, no cash. Do you think that’s likely, and what would be the implications?

Doug: I think it’s probably inevitable. It’s not just cash, but the whole world is becoming increasingly digital. Credit cards already work very well all around the world, and everyone in the world, it seems, will soon have a smartphone – or at least everyone who might have any cash.

But it’s not just a question of evolving technology. Governments hate cash for lots of reasons, starting with the fact it costs a couple of cents to print a piece of paper currency, and they have to be replaced quite often. As the US has destroyed the value of the dollar, they’ve had to take the copper out of pennies, and soon they’ll take the nickel out of nickels. Furthermore, with modern technology, counterfeiters – including unfriendly foreign governments – can turn out US currency that’s almost indistinguishable from the real thing. And the stuff takes up a lot of space if it’s enough to be of value. So sure, governments would like to get rid of tangible currency. They’d like to see all money kept in banks, which are today no more than arms of the state. But it’s not so simple: increasing numbers of people trust neither banks – most of which are insolvent – or currencies – most of which are on their way to their intrinsic values.
